Nadeje and Coconut House

Second day, we continue food hunting and walk walk around. Initially we wanted to have chicken rice ball at Chung Hwa Coffee Shop, but it was too packed, the crowd was taking umbrella queueing outside the coffee shop. I gave up and i brought them to have nyonya laksa at Donald Lily. Ching ordered chicken pongteh rice, while me and Angel ordered nyonya laksa. The nyonya laksa was my all time fav!! hahaha.. Angel loves the laksa too, commented that the laksa was very spicy and tasty. The ayam pongteh rice also quite tasty with the black bean sauce.

Me and Angel at Donald Lily.

After that, i suggested to have a walk at Jonker Street as we did not really have a good time at Jonker Street last night. It was a very hot sunny afternoon. Angel able to buy a very nice and simple dress from Jonker Street at RM55, claimed imported dress. I was able to buy cheap short at only RM25. After the walk, i brought them to Nadeje to rest (after under the hot sun) and drink.

We ordered two pieces of mille crepes, one original and one rum raisin. The above one is original flavour. Both Ching and Angel fall in love with the first bite! You see, i bet you love this, as i love mille crepe so much too! Ching tried to count the layers. I counted again from the close up photo that i took. I counted about 21-22 layers. How about you, Ching?

This is rum raisin flavour. The taste is really good!! Equally good with the original one. In fact, i prefer rum raisin than original. GOOD, GOOD and GOOD!!! I would definitely have this again.

We really have a good rest in Nadeje as we sit there doing nothing, just having our tea, mille crepes, chit chatting for about two hours before we went to Dataran Pahlawan for walk walk. After the walk, we went to have Bunga Raya Porridge. The taste of the porridge and “mien fen gau” are always good to me. Angel claimed that she can cook better than this. Hahaha…

We went to Mahkota Parade to walk walk after our dinner. After all, i still think that Dataran Pahlawan is better than Mahkota Parade. Maybe it is new, i guessed.

No idea where to go after that, Ching and me thought of Coconut House. But too bad, most of the signature dish and drinks are out of order due to lack of “raw material”. I was quite dissappointed, really. After all, i ordered oreo milkshake.

My oreo milkshake, so cooling… Felt so cool after the drink. hahaha…

Angel ordered fried asparagus with parmesan cheese. Taste not bad, but a bit salty salty due to the parmesan cheese, i guess.

After about an hour in Coconut House and both of them still have room to eat, i suggested to bring them to Pak Putra’s chicken tandoori. Called PL and she able to join us. We ordered one chicken tandoori and one cheese naan, thinking to order more when PL arrive. After the chicken tandoori arrived, i tried to order another one, but the waiter said already finish. I was quite surprised, and at the same time very sad because i know one chicken tandoori just not enough for four of us, because it was too tasty!!! PL ordered another cheese naan and roti canai. Angel was saying that the dhall sauce (for the cheese naan) was super good. The cheese naan also very soft and tasty. The chicken tandoori also have good comments from them. haha. I was quite happy after able to introduce them such a nice food for them.

After the Pak Putra, PL saying that she wanted to go second round supper, which was satay celup. Initially we went to Capital Satay Celup, but there were people queueing up (again…). We did not want to wait, so we gave up and went to Ong Kim Wee one. I really full and could not eat anymore. But the satay celup smell was so strong and tempting until i could not resist. I have been so long have not eat satay celup.

After the satay celup, PL decided to stay overnight at my house, so we can have more chit-chatting session, as Ching and Angel were going back the next day.

We went back home after the satay celup. Chit chatting (besides Angel because she was too tired) until about 3am.

Teo Soon Loong Chan, Jonker Walk, Melaka

What were you doing in last raya? Ching and Angel came to Melaka and i was their tour guide, brought them hunting Melaka good food. Both of them reached Melaka around 5.30pm (131007) and i brought them to Jonker Walk first to avoid jam and crowd later. We had our baba cendol at 88 Jonker to quench our thirst. After that, we continue to walk walk around Jonker Walk. Weather was quite good at first until it started to rain a bit a bit. Then i decided to find a place to have our dinner, preferably with shade and nearby as all of us did not have umbrella. Then,i thought of a Teochew style restaurant,Teo Soon Loong Chan . This restaurant also been blogged by ,Precious Pea and KL People KL Food .

I really amused with the collection of wide range of liquor inside the wall cabinet. Mind you, the liquor is for sell too!! If i’m not wrong, the chef sell liquor in the early years before he became a chef.
Variety of seafood for you to choose, clams, oyster, soft shell crabs, crabs, prawns, sea cucumbers, froggys, bamboo clams, you name it, they have it all!!!
Oyster noodle, come with dark and thick gravy sauce. It tastier with the black vinegar. The oyster was so fresh. Thumbs up!!! We noticed every table ordered this dish, so we did!!
Soft shell crabs, it looks so normal, but it was very crunchy and tasty at its own. At first, i did not order this, i called PL to ask what are their specialty. So i added this dish to our order.
Sweet sour chicken chop. Recommended by Mr. Tan (the owner). It looks so normal until i doubt is it really nice. Surprisingly, the taste was not bad. The chicken chop was still crispy even though it was placed with the sweet sour sauce.
Lastly, we ordered kangkung sambal. Again, it looks normal, just like other restaurants’ kangkung sambal dish too. But the taste was quite appetizing and nice. I always love vege, remember? (^.^)
The famous yam dessert, their specialty, served with gingko and smashed pumpkin. At first, i quite reluctant to try because i do not really like yam and gingko. But as said, this is their signature dessert, no matter how i got to give it a try.

This is how the yam dessert looks like after the yam, pumpkin and gingko mixed togather. To my surprised, it was not too sweet at all. The yam taste was not too strong (as i do not like strong taste of yam), mixed with the pumpkin and gingko, it really taste good!

The bill came out to total of RM77. Still acceptable with the quality of food. After the satisfying meal, we continue to walk around in Jonker Walk. But we were really had a hard time to really visit stall by stall because it was too packed!!! After awhile, we looked for a place to have drinks and chit chat. We noticed this, Cheng Ho Tea House, newly built, just located beside the Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant.

I was totally amazed with the entrance to the tea house. A very long small lane, decorated nicely between the lane, so mysterious. This was my first time came here and i totally have no idea what was inside. I thought it is a western type cafe, like many cafes do. But it was not. It is a chinese tea house, which serves variety type of chinese tea. The environment is quite comfy and peace, just too many mosquitoes (maybe due to raining). I would definitely visit again next round!

We chit chat until the tea house closed at 10.30pm. PL suggested back to my house to continue chit chatting, but i refused because my house is too hot. Then we went to Asia Havana Cafe to have second round drink. We stayed there until around 12.30am before go back.

Lau Di Fang Restaurant, Kota Laksamana

I did not blog for one week. Have been working and did not take any leave this week. Interim starts next week. I got to blog the promotion dinner photos before i really go on work! Here it is…

The menu nicely written on the big board hanging on the wall.
From left, clockwise: Sweet Pai Gu Mee Hoon (Sweet pork ribs mee hoon), Qing Zhen Yu Wei (Steamed fish tail), Tong Po Rou and San Wei Tofu (three taste tofu).

Sweet Pai Gu Mee Hoon (sweet pork ribs mee hoon): We did not know it was mee hoon at the bottom when it was served on our table until James told us. The taste was not bad, sweet sweet and this was my first time to eat mee hoon with sweet pork ribs!!

Qing Zhen Yu Wei (Steamed fish tail): One of their specialty and highly recommended by James. I asked him, only the fish tail can cater one table? enough or not? He told me don’t worry because the tail is really big size one. When it served on the table, yeah…it was really BIG!!! The flesh was fresh and sweet too. Not bad also.

Tong Po Rou: Another specialty too. Karen and LML love this dishes very much among all. Instead, yes, it was really good!!

San Wei Tofu (three taste tofu): Honestly, i could not taste the three taste as mentioned. Not very special to me. I still prefer Bei Zhan Restaurant’s homemade tofu.

From left, clockwise: Three kind of vegetables, fried salad prawn, fried oyster egg and vegetables.

Three kind of vegetables: I do not know the exact name for this. But this vege do have three types of vegetables which are long beans, four angled beans and brinjals. Not bad too.

Fried salad prawns: At first i thought it was fried salad chicken, but it was not.

Fried oyster egg: Ordered by me. Initially i wanted to order mantis prawn, but they don’t have. So to substitute my order, i choose oyster. The taste for this, so-so only.

Vegetable: Anyone can tell me what vege for this? I quite like this vege, maybe because all the dishes were all meat, so once i see vege, i was so excited and happy!

Lastly, ginger wine chicken. One of their specialty also. Honestly, i really don’t like this. Don’t get me wrong, it is not because it is not taste good, but i just don’t like ginger wine taste. hahaha.. However, i did taste and the soup was really appettizing, just the ginger wine taste was too strong for me. I believe for those really love ginger wine chicken would say this is good!!

After all, the presentation of the dishes were not really good and promising. But the taste were quite ok. I did expect very good after being highly recommended by James and Jason also introduced this. He told me the food here very very nice and cheap. Honestly, it was not up to my expectation (maybe i expect too much after all the “advertisements”). It was just average good. However, i will still include this restaurant in my lists because i quite like some of the dishes especially the steamed fish tail and tong po rou.

After the meals, we took out the mille crepe cake from the fridge and presented to Kuan and LT. We celebrated their birthday in advance because their birthday fall on Oct 15, which was our holiday.

After that, we had our photograph session.

The audit ladies….smiling happily infront of the camera.

The most complete group photo. Everyone was trying to fit into the picture. I like this photo very much although the photo turned out to be blur. After the dinner, we had our karaoke session at Red Square….

Naan bread and Chicken tandoori @ Pak Putra, Kota Laksamana

Finally i took my courage to try this, cheese naan and tandoori chicken at Pak Putra Restaurant after JAM and LWN kept on recommending this to me. They told me the cheese naan and chicken tandoori are the best in Melaka. I just could not wait coming to try after they said this…but on the other side of me, i very reluctant to come over. People who know me knows that i do not really know or appreciate those naan bread or indian food. However, last night hubby asked me again if we go Pak Putra to have our dinner. Very reluctantly, i said yes.

The green and big words of Pak Putra which you can’t go wrong. Located at the main road of Kota Laksamana, you can find so easily. This is an outdoor authentic Pakistani restaurant is owned by a Pakistani owner.

Both of us ordered teh tarik ice and mind you, never ever order this again when you visit Pak Putra, because this was the worst teh tarik i tasted so far!!! The taste was so mild, just like a plain water to me. (>.<”)

Initially both of us ordered cheese naan (after been recommended by LWN that their cheese naan is the best) but it took quite long time to serve us. I was very hungry at the moment and i worried that i’m not able to finish one whole cheese naan alone, so i changed my order to nasi lemak. The nasi lemak comes with quite big portion of pandan fragrant rice, but very small portion of the sambal, hard boiled egg and fried anchovies. However, i quite like the rice because it was really nicely smell with the pandan and the rice was quite soft and freshly served.

The cheese naan. The naan, slapped against the clay inner sides of the tandoor to cook above the coals in the bottom, was evenly browned, light and elastic, full of bready, over-warm aroma and flavours, and retained its bounce even after its cooled. The best naan i had!!! Besides cheese naan, they also serve garlic naan, butter naan, planta naan, double cheese naan and plain naan.

Here comes the main one, chicken tandoori. The chicken tandoori i had before were mostly overcooked and hard to bite. But this was not! Pak Putra’s chicken tandoori marinated with rempah and infuses spices was grilled to perfection. It was not overcooked or dry at all. The chicken was so juicy and the meat was so tender. The chicken tandoori also comes with their home made sauce, which took me quite some time to taste what flavour was that. I tasted mint and lime flavour. Hubby said chili padi. I did not taste the spicyness of the sauce because i think i already immune to the spicy taste already! hahaha.. I would definitely come again for the naan, tandoori chicken and other Indian authentic food!!!

I noticed most of the people here not indian, but a lot chinese and foreigners!!! I bet this Pak Putra restaurant is included in the Lonely Planet or those popular traveller’s forum. Please do check Jason Mumbles for his review on Pak Putra Restaurant. This is another Malacca good food that should included in your list!!

Simply Fish, Melaka Raya

081007 ~ our first anniversary…errr…we do have few anniversaries. But yesterday was the day we vow our marriage @ Tian Hou Gong Temple last year. (^_^) Time flies really fast, but i still feel like in the mood of love. Loving each day with hubby companion.
We had our dinner (not candlelight dinner please, i do not fancy about this, just a nice dinner will do) @ Simply Fish. I’d been there few times and i totally love the food there.

Our drinks. Hubby ordered banana milkshake. In fact, i really got a bit surprised when he ordered this. But the taste really not bad. The fragrance of the banana is nice. I ordered ice cappuccino. Honestly, the drinks here are really not bad and the price is reasonable.

Hubby took this. Chef favourite salmon. This has been marked as favourite. The salmon flesh is so fresh. I just could not how to describe in word. Once the salmon go through my throat, i could taste the freshness and sweet. It is just taste so heavenly. The side dish is the fragrance rice which fried with “kismis”. It tastes good too!

My flamingo hot pick’s. Served with the frying pan. Before served to me, the waitress used the “fire” to make the prawns and fillet more “grilled”.

The portion of this is quite big. The fillet portion is really big, togather with three prawns, fragrance fried rice with ‘kismis” and chips. I can 100% ensure you that the seafood they are using are totally fresh and good quality. I think this is the reason why they could expand thier business from one shop lot to two combined shop lots! Simply fish, is the only restaurant that serves fresh seafood meals in town.

I truly enjoyed this simple dinner. Happy. (^O.O^)

Nyonya Laksa @ Donald Lily, Kota Laksamana

I have been wanted to eat laksa for so long, before i went for my training. Actually hubby wanted to have ball ball chicken rice, but it was too crowded and no parking lots available. So just gave up. Then i said i wanted to have laksa. He said weather so hot, laksa is not really a good choice. But there is cendol also, don’t worry! (^O.O^) So we went to Donald Lily.
Here it is. My nyonya laksa! It was so yummy! This was my third time having my laksa here. I remember my first time with PL and Ching. Second time, i brought hubby here. He said ok ok only. But this time i found it really good. I hardly can find good laksa in Melaka. This is one of the best laksa in Melaka. Erm, a lot tourists come here also.

The lady boss recommended us “tau gua fish ball” . I do not really like this as i do not take “tau gua”. But hubby ordered this. The lady boss served us a big plate of this. I was a bit shocked why she served us in big size considering only two of us. (>.<) Taste?? So-so only. This is the nyonya cendol. Not too sweet as there was only a bit gula melaka on it. The shaved ice also a bit only (which i expected more shaved ice). However, the taste is average normal. Errr…what can i say? A typical cendol in melaka. (O^O)
