Bangkok – Day 1

My long-awaited trip to Bangkok. As the main purpose for this trip is shopping, thus very few photos taken for this trip compared to last trip to Angkor Wat. We took 8.25am flight to Bangkok. We reached LCCT at about 7am. Just right time for us to have quick breakfast at McD.

I don’t know why i still want to take photo before going up to this AirAsia plane although i have took this similar photo before. :-P

Fill up the petrol tank before fly. This is my first time seeing plane filling up the petrol.

We reached Suvarnabumi Airport at Bangkok. It is a big airport. You have to walked quite far for custom clearance and baggage claim. But the Suvarnabumi Airport is much bigger and pretty than KLIA.

After check-out, there are some ladies will ask you if you want taxi services. I believe they are under airport staff because price quoted by them is very expensive, 1100Bath. We immediately walked away until we about to reach the gate. There was a lady approached us and claimed that she is airport staff and help us to taxi. I told her that i wanted to take public taxi and she told me she is here to help me to translate the hotel’s name to Thai language so the taxi driver knows where it is. I asked about the price and she told me the price would be around 300-400Bath. So i agreed as i know this is the reasonable price after searching info from the forums.

Queeing up to buy ticket for public taxi. We need to pay surcharge of 50Bath and pay any toll charges incurred too. But the toll charges only 25Bath. So it is okay for us.

End up, we only paid 300Bath for taxi fare from airport to Pratunam area (First House Hotel) which included surcharge and toll charge. We were quite surprised as we were prepared pay 400Bath as mentioned by the lady in the airport just now. The taxi driver is very honest as he used meter to charge us, so he would not charge us extra.

Actually i quite dissappointed with the hotel. It is because i expected the look as what the hotel website photos especially the room photos. But end up, the actual room looks so old and everything is quite aged already. But never mind lah, cheap room with good location, who cares. I’m not coming here for staying long in the hotel, so i don’t really mind actually.

After checked-in to the hotel and put our luggage, we immediately walked to Platinum Fashion Mall to shop.

The traffic in Pratunam area. My friend told me Bangkok is reckoned as worst traffic (always jam) in Asia. Is it true?

Bangkok taxis are all in pink!!! Don’t you think they are adorable in pink? (^_^) Besides pink, also got other colors like yellow and blue. But mostly in pink!!!! So they are very eye-catching. Don’t you think so?

My lunch at Platinum’s Foodcourt, 6th floor if i’m not mistaken. It is glass noodle in tomyam goong. I told myself i must have tomyam goong in Bangkok. I must reckon that the tomyam goes very good with glass noodle instead of meehoon. The taste is sweet, spicy and sour. There are two to three big prawns. I believe seafood in Bangkok is cheap? As they able to give two to three big prawns for this glass noodle tomyam goong with only 800Bath?

Pad Thai for hubby. He has no idea what to eat, so i suggested him Pad Thai, after i read some forum saying that must try Pad Thai in Bangkok. :-P Actually it is like our local fried kuey tiaw, but Pad Thai’s taste is very sweet. However, there is two big prawns too!! hehe… But this Pad Thai is too sweet for me. :-(

After having our lunch, feeling excited, we started our shopping spree. Actually i wanted to snap some photos of the mall, but there is a guard when i entered the mall and told us we are not allowed to take photo in the mall. I just wonder why. So we behaved ourselves as we were at other people’s country mah. hehe

Rest a while and have a cup of tea at Black Canyon Coffee. You can see this, Black Canyon Coffee everywhere in Bangkok, as if like Starbucks or Coffee Bean in Malaysia. They even have three branches in this Platinum Fashion Mall!!! (O_o) Try their Black Canyon Coffee Frappe. It is really good….!!!

Although the mall looks not promising from outside and quite packed inside as every shop is very small and no fitting room for you to try, but you are not surprised if you see lots of foreigners or tourists here. Also don’t be surprised if you see people pulling big bags of stuff as i believe most of the boutique owners get their stocks here. My favourite line here is “how much”, “wholesale price how much”. Yes, there is different price if you buy one piece, two pieces or three pieces. Three pieces consider wholesale for them already. So the more you buy, the cheaper you can get.

After few hours here, we decided to go back hotel to rest awhile.

Grilled prawn. Hubby was so tempted when seeing this grilled prawn. But he not dare to try at the end. He is quite regret by now everytime seeing this grilled prawn photo because he is saying that all the virus should be totally killed already by grilled them like this.

Another hubby’s favourite. He just loves grilled squids so so much. Again, he was not dare to try. So just snap some photo to kill his emptiness of his stomach. :-D

Some of the street food. Grilled/fried food.

Grilled fish and chicken. The grilled chicken is just like our local ayam golek. hehe. But the grilled fish is really not good looking thou. :-( Do you dare to try ?

This lady is selling tomyam maggi mee at one of the small lane. See the cockles, prawns, squids, pieces of hotdog at left side? I guess the tomyam maggi mee must be very nice. But i think we are able to cook the same thing at our own too. hehe…

We went back to the Platinum again at about 7pm something. By then, we noticed that most of the shops going to close at that hour. So, we just straight went to the foodcourt again to have our dinner.

My dinner, grilled salmon bento. I don’t remember the price, but i guess around 60-80Bath. So it is quite cheap for me. Comes togather with a bowl of soup too. The taste, okay okay.

Hubby seafood fried rice. He just simply loves squid. As long as there is squid for his meal, he is satisfy. :-)

Fried oyster. We ordered this after seeing the oysters are big and fresh. Fried togather with egg. But this fried oyster don’t have taste at all. Maybe we need to add on the sugar, chillies at our own. Other than big oysters, this fried oysters don’t have taste…. So, please do not order this at any foodcourt in Bangkok, unless you know how to blend the taste at your own with the sugar and chillies provided lah.

Hubby has not enough with his seafood fried rice. Ordered this japanese tako. Taste wise, so-so loh. Hehe…

Oh yea….i forgot to mention that we need to buy a card before we can order any food at the Platinum Foodcourt. You can buy at any value you wish. Any unused credit can be refunded. So you can use the card when ordering your food. You will use the card as credit card and the seller will swipe your card and give you a receipt stating your meal value and the balance of your card. :-)

Pratunam at night.

We went back to hotel after our dinner to rest, as we need to get up early for temple visit tomorrow.

Creamy Crabs, PJ Seafood Restaurant

This is another outdated post. Actually i wanted to blog about this creamy crabs from PJ Seafood so long time ago. First time i had this PJ Seafood when my juniors brought me there while i was auditing Sunway client. I’m not super crab fan then. But the creamy crab here really not bad. You can see every table ordering the same thing, creamy crab. After first attempt with my juniors, i keep recommending PJ Seafood crab to my other colleagues and try to pshyco them to bring me there everytime we come KL. So, my second time was during my training early September with one of my colleague and ex-colleague (one of my best friend).

The milk cream here looks so tempting. The cream is so yummy. Luckily the boss is generous enough to give sufficient cream togather with the crabs. One kg have about 3 crabs. You need to use small “spannar” to ketuk the crab, which is sometimes ask me not to eat him. I hate this. haha.

This is the fried mantou. I tell you, this is a must have when you come here. At first i see every table also have a plate of this fried mantou. My juniors kept telling me this fried mantou is very nice. I really really doubt it at my first sight. But i was so wrong when i eat my first fried mantou here. The skin is so crispy, but yet they can maintain the softness of the mantou bread inside. There is like milky taste inside. Remember, must dip the fried mantou with the cream from the crab, more good!!! :-D

Comparing crab at PJ Seafood and Lobak, Seremban, i can say it is different taste lah. One is creamy/milky type and one is grilled crab. It is depends on which one you more favour on. But remember must order fried mantou if you visit PJ Seafood.

Grilled Crab, Lobak, Seremban

Oh yes, we went to Seremban to have grilled crab. I can’t remember when was our last time having grilled crab at Seremban. I’m quite sure more than a year. I was so hungry once we reached LCCT airport (we’re back from Bangkok :-D ) Hubby promised me to go Seremban to have grilled crab. I do not remember the place name, but hubby remembered, LOBAK. So we just drove and drove to the town until we saw Lobak signboard. Until we felt like lost our way, we stopped by and asked an uncle beside the road.

Hubby: Excuse me, can i know where is Lobak and how to go there?

Uncle: Here is Lobak!!!

Hubby: (*paiseh*) oh…hehe…then can i know how to go the famous grilled crab nearby here?

Uncle: Oh….you are referring to new or old one?

Hubby: (question mark inside him…got two?) Old one.

Uncle: Oh…just go straight here, and turn right at the traffic light infront and you will see the restaurant at your right side. Very near only.

Hubby: (very happy) thank you very much!

True enough, it is very near from the place where we stopped by asked the uncle. We were so happy when see the signboard. I remembered this signboard. :-P

As i was quite hungry at that time, i suggested to order one plate of mee, vege and crab.

“Fan shu ye” with belacan. Not bad. :-)

The signature fried mee recommended by the boss. Not bad too. But quite big portion for two persons as we could not finished.

The unique sauce to dip in with the grilled crab. How is the taste? A bit spicy, a bit sour and sweet! Totally awesome!!!

The grilled crabs. Very much bigger than i had at PJ Seafood (i will post it up the creamy crab i had at PJ Seafood very soon). Imagine one kg only two crabs here, but three crabs at PJ Seafood. One kg is about RM43 if i’m not mistaken. The grilled crabs here are totally licking good!!! I’m missing this so much now. I will definitely come over here again very soon.

But next time we will order one small plate of signature mee and one and half kgs or two kgs of crabs! :-D

With the satisfying meal, we happily drove back to Melaka.

Dim Sum, Melaka

This is the outdated post actually. Been there about one or two weeks ago.

“Yong Mao coffee shop”. My favourite place for dim sum in Melaka. Located near Kuan Yin Temple (Sorry, i really do not pay attention at the road name).

Chinese tea, good to have it with dim sum.

Hubby’s favourite porridge. He said this is the most original way of having porridge with few “yu char kuey” on top.

Glutinous rice wrapped with “he ye”, or we called “he ye fan” in mandarin. I will surely order this everytime i come here. Actually the taste a bit like “ba zhang”, but this one is more fragrant, the “he ye” fragrant.

Few plates of dim sum. A must have are the steam pork ribs. Very good!! Also, some says the “bau” here is good. But this time we didn’t order because the porridge, “he ye fan” and few plates of dim sum is enough for both of us.

One more thing is good to reach here early morning around 7.45am to 8.30am because not so much people yet and quite easily to secure a table. If not, you have to wait. :-P

Claypot Chicken Rice, Tengkera

Suddenly thought of having claypot chicken rice at Tengkera. Remembered we always been there during my college times when i came back from KL. The foodcourt is only opened at night time, located at the main road of Tengkera, just beside a school with big field (i don’t know what school is that :-P ) and traffic light just few metres away.

I failed to take clearer picture of the signboard.

Here’s the zoom photo of the signboard. :-P

The chili sauce. Usually i would keep on snap photos while waiting the food to be served. Hubby always feels paiseh to take food photos because he said everybody is looking. But i don’t care. I just take and take as i like. I don’t care people looking at me. :-P

The claypot chicken rice is served. The boss will “kacau” evenly the rice for us. Actually i wanted to ask him no need to “kacau” so i can take a photo, but he was too fast. :-(

After the rice being evenly ‘kacau”. hehe….

Included are chicken meat (obviously, *stupid*), “lap cheong” and salty fish. Actually i love the “lap cheong” the most. But the chicken meat is so little compared to last time, and it is not as tasty as before. The rice is stucked at the claypot wall even though the boss and hubby already “kacau” it at the beginning. So the some of the rice like “berketul-ketul”, which i really don’t like.

Never mind, hubby ordered bbq chicken wing. Yeah…one of our favourite bbq chicken wing in Melaka.

Some part of the chicken wings were over grilled i guess because the skin was ‘chau tah”. hehe… Other than this, the chicken wings still remain its tastiness as before. :-)

Conclusion, i will looking for another good claypot chicken rice to substitute this one. :-P

Cosmo Noodle Bar, Melaka Raya

Me and sister went to Cosmo Noodle Bar to have light dinner before i went to KL for training. No idea what to have for our dinner, but due to the strong sun and hot weather, then we decided to look for air-con restaurant. Then immediately i think of Cosmo Noodle Bar, good environment and sister never been there yet.

My detox flower tea. Especially ordered this because i already few days didn’t able to go toilet. :-D Feel so good having tea. I love tea so much. :-D

Vegetables in oyster sauce. Not that nice. Would not order this again. :-P

This pork mini burger is good! The bread is being fried a bit i guess, because it was a bit crunchy at the top layer, but soft inside. The small mini pork chop is juicy and licking good!!!

The close-up of the mini pork burger. Looks delicious isn’t it? :-P

I forgot how much the total bill come with 2 drinks, mini pork burger and one vege. But i remembered it is not exceeded RM30.

(This post took me so long time because of the photo loading -.-”’)

Fried Oyster, Muar

It has been some time i didn’t have fried oyster. For fried oyster, i will only think of one place, MUAR. Last tuesday (public holiday for Melaka), i asked hubby if want to go Muar to have fried oyster. He agreed. I was over the moon!!! :-D

I do not know what is the lane call. But if you ask local people, they are able to direct you. Just mention to them near Senyum supermarket, a lane with lots of hawker stalls. :-P My auntie always told me Muar is so small which just have few lanes. So you will not get lost. haha

So happy when see this uncle!!! He is doing the fried oyster. I tell you, he is so generous when comes to oyster. He will normally cook in a bulk. With lots of egg, and few scoops of oyster. Then he will put the fried oyster onto the paper plate or normal plate according to customer’s order. He is not calculative in giving the oysters. Once i ordered RM4 fried oyster and there was 8 big oysters!!! :-D But in melaka, you will only get max 4 oyster. yeah….about RM1 for each oyster. haha.. That’s why i do not like to eat melaka fried oyster, even the famous Bunga Raya fried oyster. Another thing is not just the oyster, the size of the oyster in Melaka is freaking small and they put a lot of flour instead of egg.

Egg’s shell are stack up nicely. So cute. :-)

This photo is taken by me. Notice the big oyster? Hehe… :-P

This photo is taken by hubby, at different angle. From this photo, you can see the fried egg is so fluffy and yummy!! haha

Other than fried oyster, hubby ordered wan tan mee. Okay, for taste wise, not so nice, very very normal and hubby said a bit tasteless. :-( But the mee texture is so thin. It’s very different with Melaka one. Not recommended. haha

In fact, i only know this place to have hawker food everytime i visit Muar. After taken our dinner, we went to Wetex Parade. It was so quiet. We went back within 1 hour time after Wetex Parade. Muar….is kinda boring. No wonder so many Johor people flooded Melaka during weekends or public holiday. Although Melaka is a small state, but Melaka has quite a number of shopping centres like Mahkota Parade, Dataran Pahlawan, Parkson Grand, Jusco, Tesco, Giant, Carrefour, and now Jusco is opening a second branch beside Tesco!! I could not imagine the traffic then!!! :-S
